Hebrides Accommodation
The Hebrides of Scotland offer some of the most fantastic accommodation in the United Kingdom. From the self catering delights such as the blackhouse at Scarista on Harris, to the more conventional, but extremely welcoming, hotels and guest houses offering bed and breakfast accommodation. While SelfCateringHebrides.co.uk is a site about self catering accommodation we felt that we should include at least one page describing some of the other types. Maybe the one reason why some people prefer to stay b&b in a guest house or hotel is that they can fully relax while being cared for by others. However some folk choose types of accommodation in the Hebrides other than self catering because they wish to enjoy the company of others. Ordinarily this may mean a chance meeting with a like minded person in the guest's lounge or bar but when referring to bed and breakfast accommodation in the Hebrides it, more than likely, means the company of the host. Hebridean hospitality is legendary and your host will, almost certainly, be eager to help and easy to converse with. Always remember that your host is a fountain of local knowledge so do not be afraid to ask if you need any help.
Bed & Breakfast and hotel accommodation in Stornoway and the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides
Stornoway has had a number of fine hotels over the years but sadly many of the fine old buildings are now gone. The Royal Hotel was built relatively recently in 1845 but is the town's most historic hotel. You will most probably be happy to hear that the rooms to the front of the building have retained much of their period features, so, if you enjoy staying bed and breakfast in such luxurious period surrounding the Royal is the only place to stay. This is the closest Stornoway hotel to the town centre being only a few minutes walk away.
Free wireless internet. Free parking. Pets not allowed.
The Royal Hotel may be the oldest but the honour of being the largest Stornoway hotel goes to the Caladh Inn on the outskirts of the town centre. The Caladh Inn is the most convenient hotel for Stornoway airport while also being very close to the ferry terminal and local bus station. Priding itself on it's excellent reputation for giving superb service and a warm welcome, the hotel offers excellent traditional Scottish cuisine and a mix of various international meals.
Pets are not allowed
No Internet access available.
Probably the finest Stornoway hotel is the Cabarfeidh Hotel situated on the outskirts of the town and set well back off the road surrounded by well kept gardens with mature trees and shrubs. The beauty of the Cabarfeidh Hotel (pronounced cab-ar-fay) is further enhanced by the very mature trees found across the road in the wonderful and historic Lews Castle Grounds. If you get the opportunity take some time out to wander through the Castle grounds. Although the castle is closed it is well worth a look and the surrounding grounds are really most enjoyable at any time of the year.
Double, twin and single rooms available. Wireless Internet.
